This latest design from Smith & Wesson has several unique features
that set it apart from the average folding knife and captured the coveted
2002 innovative knife of the year industry award. The PowerGlide
is certainly an update to the WW2 Paratrooper design using the latest
construction methods and materials and it ends up being a world better
for quick one handed opening and closing and of course it's tougher
than nails. The handles are high impact resin, checkered for grip, on
the outside for weight efficiency and are connected with double sided
steel posted machine screws. The liner that forms the cog mechanism
to open up the blade and attaches to the blade with machine screws.
Also instead of including the usual pocket clip or sheath the maker
used the popular quick release tab now found on many cell phones and
PDA cases. This was absolutely a must for this design that is basically
a fixed blade dagger when folded out so there would be no place for
a pocket clip on the handle to be placed without interfering with the
way you grip the knife.
